Paradise in Marrakesh
I loved discovering historic treasures at the museums and at the souk, learning about the symbols from the melding cultures of the Berber, Islamic, French and Spanish influence. The design elements and vibrant deep colors of red, green, yellow and blue all have multi-faceted meanings in Islamic culture. The lush green of Morocco's mountains and valleys evoke a sense of tranquility and harmony, while water carries an almost magical power in the courtyard gardens, in the reflecting pools and burbling fountains where the play of light shimmers in the sunlight. The color green is associated with fertility, serenity, prosperity and the color of paradise. The deep turquoise pool filled with rose petals is reminiscent of my Deep Dive series, which reflects my fascination with the power and beauty of water and diving into deep turquoise pools of water, to emerge energized and water is symbol of metaphysical transformation.

Paradise in Marrakesh series came into being when I touch downed in Africa for the first time and had the feeling that I somehow knew this place. I was drawn to the vibrant colors and patterns, history and confluence of cultures.
Helena Hoyte Bierly lives on beautiful Bainbridge Island, a ferry ride away from Seattle, Washington where she grew up, with summers spent outdoors in the lush landscape of the Pacific Northwest. The daughter of inquisitive, well-traveled parents, she inherited an artistic legacy from her grandmother and British father who was a landscape architect. Helena has degrees in textile and interior design and is a highly successful artist. Her work is in many private collections and was nominated for the most successful show in 2024 at Sotheby's , Bainbridge Island. Since 2019 she has pursued her career as a full-time artist. Her highly collectable art is inspired by themes from her travels .
Printmaking has been influential in my process and painting on wood panel and linen I build textures and layered colors often starting with sketches and photos. I am intrigued by the process of creating one-of-a-kind prints. The experience of pulling a print off the press can be exhilarating as the image is reversed from the image created on the plexiglas plate using transparent and opaque inks.
